I was traveling last week and completely missed the Austria race, and just did not care. I watched the British GP yesterday, but felt like I was forcing myself and that there were probably better things I should be doing with my time.
Is it just me? Is it a byproduct of Mercedes dominance? Anyone? Anyone?

I’ve stopped watching in 2011 or 12. Couldn’t care less about F1 ever since then.

I only watched one race this year and that was part of Monoco when i was in a hotel recovering from the night before. I can’t bring myself to care about it anymore.

Unless Kimi is being Kimi, I am not interested.

I follow it tangentially. I don’t watch the races except for interesting ones like new tracks or Monaco, but I look up results and follow the drama.
Most races aren’t worth getting up early for on a Sunday.

Austria was phenomenal. Britain was okay but mostly because of how long it took Nico to get past the wee-baby Max Verstappen.

Not the best year, not the worst. I look at it the same as I look at following a team in any other sport...some years we’re decent and in the action and some years we’re crap and I tune out a bit. This year’s a middle ground, I still turn on qualifying and the race but I’m normally reading or dicking around on the phone rather than riveted to the set.

I usually leave it on in the background in case anything crazy happens but I won’t go out of my way to watch it. That’s reserved for BTCC for me.

I have a few friends really into F1. I find it boring; very boring. My wife and I watch FIA Rally Cross. It’s much more interesting with dirt and pavement sections, jumping, more crashing, more passing. And the heats are short so you’re not just stuck there watching lap after lap of the same thing hoping someone’s car spontaneously lights up just to add some drama.

Yup. The Merc dominance is getting tiresome, and the British GP was a total snooze. As a lifelong Michael Schumacher fan, though, I’m having trouble reconciling those feelings with my support for Ferrari during all their dominant years. It’s no different, really, but I feel that the racing was at least more entertaining in those days, but I may be seeing that through rose-colored glasses. Even qualifying, which has been the saving grace of F1 lately, has gotten predictable. The promises from Ferrari to make it a race haven’t materialized, but it’s neat seeing Honda making strides. I just hope somebody can catch up to the Mercs soon.

I thought that last race would have some more excitement, but I think Nico went in to “race management mode” and opted out of the battle. He’s the equivalent of Jenson Button as a driver. Just so freaking boring. Heck, I liked when he ran Lewis off the track, but he’s back to being himself.

I enjoy it, but not like I enjoy classic F1 clips. Austria was great, by the way. Far more exciting than yesterday’s race.

Max gets my DOTD for his defense. And in the end it probably got him his second place finish, so it was more than just fun. That kid has been the most entertaining part of this season. I don’t even mind too much that he’s eclipsed my favorite driver, Ricciardo.

I think that he’s going to be world champion next season. The Red Bull’s a better chassis than the Merc, Newey’s historically been on top of new regs faster than anyone, and he (Newey) has had to learn how to get more downforce with less drag because of the shit engines Renault’s been building. Apart from Honda, the power units should all be pretty close by next year, so that Red Bull’s looking like a pretty hot seat.

Yeah. It’s taken them a while, but they’re definitely getting faster. Right now I think their weakest link is strategy. Time and again they’ve screwed the drivers over with bad pit decisions and whatnot. Shore up that foundation and next year is looking bright. Max and Daniel are both world class drivers, and with a proper team behind them, they could turn into the next Hamilton and Rosberg. Except more fun and nicer to each other.

I wouldn’t look too much into the strategy calls. Ricciardo’s been making a stink about it because of Spain, but no one knew which strategy was best, which is why both Ferrari and Red Bull split their strategy the same way. Max ended up being the lucky one. Monaco was a pit-stop error, not a strategy error. RBR tend to be pretty spot-on with their strategies. The less-than-optimal call for Ricciardo was just really high profile because Verstappen got a win on his debut after his promotion.

I just tend to look at the bigger picture. The dude smashes qualifying, but can’t get on the podium. If there’s a problem, it’s not in the cockpit, or even with the car.

I pretend AMG Merc doesnt exist...
the first half of the race was pretty exciting because of the wet track, but once the driving line came out, it got pretty boring
